[ARCHIVED] A Look Back: 1911 Currency by Zoe Bruggeman

The original item was published from November 17, 2021 to August 18, 2021 12:12 PM

Scans of a $5 and $20 dollar bill front and back from 1991 East Grand Forks, MN

In earlier years of banking, banks all had their own currency and put the name of the town on them. These dollar notes were printed in 1911, by the First National Bank of East Grand Forks. Image and information found in A Meeting of the Reds: East Grand Forks 1887-1987, Volume 2. Page 320. Wouldn’t it be crazy and cool if this was still a thing? To see how far dollars could really travel around in just America.
